Before I found the SPN fandom, my original fandom was Star Trek.  Over the past 10ish years, since I first found the InterWebs, I'd been collecting TOS and TNG vids and images on my computer.

This was before LJ.  If I'd been on LJ back then, I'd have put them in my journal for reference, etc.

I haven't googled ST for quite awhile (been too busy with SPN dontchaknow.)  While looking for something to send my friend I mentioned in my past post, I started re-finding many of the images and vids I'd collected over the years.  I can remember how HARD it was to find these vids in years past--and there they are--on YouTube in seconds.

Posting some here for my reference.

Star Trek meets Monty Python (Gen, Humor, TOS)

Nine Inch Nails (NC-17, Kirk/Spock, Warning for Slashey, and implied NonCon and NSFW lyrics).  Normally semi-violent fanvids aren't really my thing.  But this vid is SO well done.   One of the best out there from old-school ST fanvids. Those who follow ST fanvids will likely already know about this vid.

Star Trek 40th Anniversary Tribute (Gen).  When this video first came out, I teared up watching it.  I mean what other "show" has such a wealth of history and characters in it.  And all of that started from Roddenberry back in 1966!  This vid does a great job of chronicling the whole Star Trek universe.

Jim Carrey paradies Kirk In Living Color (Gen, Humor).  I remember when this first aired on TV.  Hilarious.

Picard and Q get Footloose.  (Picard/Q, suggestive, humor).  This was the first fanvid I ever found.  I found it through the first slash I ever found--which was Picard/Q.

Shatner Raps.  Technically not ST.  It's a clip from the movie "Free Enterprise" about geeks and fandoms and Star Trek.  Shatner raps in this scene.  And I think he's pretty good!

When I'm 64 (Kirk & Spock, Gen - could be interpreted as Kirk/Spock I guess.)

Desert Rose (Kirk/Spock, NC-17-I *think* from memory, Warnings: NSFW images).  Another one of my favorites.  I ended up buying this song and played it so many times the year I found this fanvid.  There's no embedding on this vid.  You can find it here.

All of my saved ST fanvids are archived off on an external drive that I don't have ready access to right now.  I know there are about 3-5 other classic ST fanvids that I can't recall the names/songs for right now.  I did a bit of scan through YouTube and didn't see them out there.  If I ever find them, I'll add them.

ETA:  Yay!  Just found another!

Razzle Dazzle!  (Gen)  One of my favorite Jim Kirk fanvids

Someone on my flist posted a link just the other day to an article about fan vidding.  It may have been about either or both the history of fan vidding and/or how the Star Trek franchise contributed to it's birth and/or growth.  I'm not exactly sure.  I opened the link in a tab for later reading and then accidently closed that tab--so I'd only glanced at the title before I lost it.

I'm really interested in reading it.  If anyone has any clue what I'm referring to and can re-link me to it, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again.

[livejournal.com profile] janglyjewels just rec'd this awesome SPN fanvid made by maichan2.  The ending kinda blew me away--but it's subtle and fast so you have to watch for it.

Spoilers for S4 through 4x04.

Happy SPN Day!

[personal profile] dualbunny has a great BSG fanvid posted here called Cuz I Can.  It's really worth downloading to view.  It's Starbuck centric and fits her so well.  It is a sequel to her God is a DJ vid (which is also awesome).

This particular shot really grabbed me.  I really love Starbuck.

Decided to post links to some of my favorite BSG fanvids.

One of my favorite characters on BSG is Starbuck--who in this version is a woman. This is one of the first BSG fanvids I ever found and it shows Starbuck with "Six" one of the Cylons. Here is the link on Youtube.

This next one is my all-time-favorite BSG fanvid. It does portray a lot of the battle and violent scenes from the show (again--it's the backdrop to the human drama.) It opens with words from a speech given by Bill Adama (leader of Battlestar Galactica) about the first Cylon War questioning humans assumption that they will not have to face up to the consequences of their actions.

The next one is a tribute to S1 & S2 of BSG with some editted Bear McCreary music from the show. Even the music that is not Bear's is similar to the type of music in the show. I'm probably scaring away the sci-fi haters since so many of these clips look so sci-fi intense. But the sci-fi is the background against which the human drama plays. Also? I really am not usually a huge fan of battle scenes. But in BSG? I sit on the edge of my chair for all battle scenes. Between the special effects, the pacing, and the MUSIC (especially the music) I am ENTHRALLED by the battle scenes.

Finally, this one uses Bear McCreary's piece from S3--All Along the Watchtower. It shows scenes from the S3 finale (which looks a little like an acid trip--which in a way..I guess it was.)

Another great angst-filled Dean fanvid by [personal profile] wolfpup2000 .

Man just watching this brings home how much I love watching Jensen perform.  He is just SO GOOD.  You can just feel what he's feeling as Dean.

Supernatural 101

I put this together several months ago for a friend I was trying to convert to the show.  This weekend I decided to code it for online reference.  If you notice errors please let me know.

Supernatural is a show introduced on the WB (now the CW) in the fall of 2005. The creator of the show, Eric Kripke, envisioned a show that showcased American Urban Legends and Myths. The show chronicles the story of the brothers Sam & Dean Winchester. The show is in it’s third season as of January 2008.

Dean & Sam travel across the country in a 1967 classic Chevy Impala searching for their father, John Winchester, the supernatural, and the thing that killed their mother, Mary Winchester.

This show appeals on so many levels--it is a one-hour thriller movie per episode with all the creepiness and yes some of the gore of the genre.  It follows a five-year myth-arc that is intricately woven through almost every episode.  Sometimes so subtlely that you won't even see it until later shows review secrets and you find as you re-watch previous episodes there were clues just "laying around" in plain view.

It is a show that also doesn't take itself too seriously.  It pokes humor at itself, at the genre, at it's fans (which the fans love), and at the characters themselves.

But *more* than anything it is a show about family, about love, and about devotion and sacrifice.  You will come to love the brothers Winchester.  I don't love or even much like modern-day horror shows--too much blood and gore.  But this show--I love.

If anyone is an X-Files fan--you'll find similarities.  The show has some X-Files alumnae as writers/directors.  And for those of you who are Buffy or Whedon fans, you'll find a clone of Joss in Supernatural's creator, Eric Kripke, who is dearly loved by the fans.

Please note that I link to various fanvids throughout this post.  I try to note when those vids may be spoilery for certain episodes/seasons.  But I may have missed something.

Below the cut is a longish introduction to this show.  If you find yourself interested, be sure to watch Supernatural on The CW, Thursdays at 9pm.  If you start with S1 DVDs, give yourself until after the first episode of S2 before you pass full judgement on the show.  Many folks find that by mid-season 1 they are intrigued or hooked--but almost all who make it to the premier episode of season 2 are full-on addicted.

Wow if you lasted through all that--you're definitely either a Supernatural fan already or you are a prime candidate.  Go watch some--Thursdays, 9pm on the CW.

Fly-by-instant-rec.

[personal profile] wolfpup2000 has another SPN vid up here called The Storm.  Go check it out if you love Dean Angst and Brother Devotion.  I usually really go for the fast-paced vids, but this one took my breathe away.  I very rarely see an SPN vid out of [personal profile] wolfpup2000 that is not outstanding.  She's done some of my favorites.

The other day I spammed a few folks when I was de-compressing from work by surfing YouTube for Supernatural vids.  Thought I'd post them here:

It's a little wierd that a Supernatural fanvid would be set to a Christmas song, but it really works.

While I'm at it.  I'm also posting a YouTube link to the scene in Episode 1 where "Eyes" by Rogue Waves is played.  I really liked the scene with the music overlay. I don't think it's spoilery at all. More of a tease.
