"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men."

About this Space

This is my primary fandom home.   If you've wandered here somehow via real-life channels, hi there!   In this space I let my fandom geek out.   I also express my love of photography via fandom by taking and sharing with fandom photographs at conventions
(via a Creative Commons License).     I also sometimes share bits and pieces of my real life here.  Sometimes friends-locked.  Sometimes not.  But always with an eye towards sharing within a fandom space.  The emphasis in open posts is usually on fun.   I gave up hiding fandom a few years ago.  I don't advertise, but yes, this is also me.   Roald Dahl, author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory one of my favorite childhood books and movies, had his character Willy Wonka state that "A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest man."   This is the tag line that describes this space.    If you want serious, if you want my professional side, I have other spaces for that.  :)

My posts are a mix of fandom and RL. Many, but not all, RL posts are friends locked.  Most fandom posts are unlocked.

Fangasm!!!

I posted about my spaz attack when I received my copy of Fangasm.  I've read the book.  Finished it the day it arrived in the mail.   Felt like I was walking through a history of SPN fandom that we all lived via LJ and conventions.

Well now there is an LJ site for the book as well--[livejournal.com profile] fangasmspn.

I am so stealing the photo that Ash48 posted when she rec'd the site.  Because who wouldn't want this photo on their LJ?

As Emily and I ate our lunch of pulled pork sandwiches and freshly cooked corn on cob, several kids spent time climbing a tree just off the porch.

Emily and I drove our to Sauvie Island today which is just outside of Portland. There are several farms out there that cater to families with kids. One is the Pumpkin Patch, which we used to bring our kids to every autumn to get pumpkins. Today was very sunny. I think the sunniness it's ever been when I've been to the Pumpkin Patch. This is a shot of the Cow Train. Kids were having fun. :)

I love it when this happens.   =D

I've been trying to get through the remainder of my Vancon photos that I had let languish.

I just finished a few photos of Richard & DJ and thought also to relink to the DJ photos I had posted earlier.   I tagged DJ on Twitter in the post.  Within minutes, I got this notification on my iphone.  I did a double take because i don't use Twitter that often and I wasn't positive this was telling me what I thought it was telling me.

So Fangasm is available today.   I'm still waiting on my hardcopy, but I just discovered it's also available in Kindle format.  So now I have a copy to read!  Yay!
ishot-1089

Of course I'm EXHAUSTED from my day-job work and doing some photography work as well.  Basically holding down two jobs now.   So I am either too tired to try to read it tonight or will stay awake just to do so and then be even more tired tomorrow.  But, whatever!

Can't wait to read all this.  :)  Lynn & Kathy, I am so proud of you both.  I know this isn't your first, but it's Fangasm.   Your baby has been delivered.

And hey, I now have photos in an actual published book.  lol.   :)  (FYI, the color of the page is my personal configuration for Kindle.  Helps with my eye strain to not be staring an a blaring white page on an electronic device.)

Update:  Oh I missed this part.  Now that I'm actually reading the book, looks like I won't be going to bed anytime soon after all.  Being mentioned along side Chris and Lizz makes me smile.  I still remember talking with Lizz at one of my first ever conventions.  Everyone else was looking at the stage and the guests, and I was looking at this photographer who was taking their photos.   I was almost more interested in talking with her than hearing the guests.   It was a brief conversation.   But one I still remember.  And then of course ... Chris.  Who is just generally all around awesome.

Went down a bit of rathole today.   Came back up with this.    The addition of the lens as a last minute add.   I had been trying for a symbolic lens, but found the lens image and it just ... worked.   However, I'm not yet sure if it's overall too gimmicky.  I have a version without the lens and without the little bubble circles as well.  This is not a watermark.  Rather could be used as an icon/avatar, sticker, badge, insignia.

Random aside:   WOW Is it RAINING much??!!!

It's been a very long summer.  All kind of a blur.  I'm one of those people who gets energized by Fall.   It sparks my creative energy.   I put in likely 15 hours yesterday doing long overdue work on my photography business.  So I'm feeling accomplished and while a tad bit tired, not exhausted at all.  I think back to 2008 when I was considering launching my own business.  Photography was not on the list of potentials back then.   I felt like I was moving through sludge to try to figure out what and how and if I even wanted to do it.  And the answer kept coming back NO.

What is the line by John Lennon, "Life is what happens when you are making other plans?"   This feels something like that.  I've always loved photography.   I almost majored in it back in college, but didn't for many reasons.    Mostly (but not only) because frankly back then darkroom work bored and frustrated me.  Way too slow and cumbersome.   (Ironic now because I'm considering enrolling in a darkroom class; which would be my first since I was about 19 years old.)  I received my first camera when I was about 7 or 8 years old.  It was a Brownie.  I'm pretty sure it was this one below.  I can still remember opening the package.  When my daughter was born I was constantly taking photos of her with our Canon EOS film camera.   Bob was always telling me to stop taking photos because I was "wasting film!"  I cataloged all my negatives and marked the back of all prints with the cataloged negative reference numbers.

But still.  Doing photography on a professional basis never occurred to me in 2008.   It's been so gradual.  And while it has not been effortless.  It *feels* like it's effortless.

While I'm not done, I spent a good deal of time yesterday resolving several issues I had with my two main photography websites.  While I still have some tweaking, I'm pretty happy with them right now.  Plus all of my various sites and social media sites are not somewhat hooked together.

Just found this on FB.  It's one of my photos (lousy quality version of it), with this great quote from Jensen.   :)

I woke up this morning with this song playing in my head.  I had never seen the official music video for it.  Love the music and the video is great as well.  (Below is a screen shot linked to Youtube video because embedding on Youtube is turned off for this video.)
