.
I'm stumped this year on what to get for my mother for Christmas. I don't really want to get her a THING. I want to get her an event or activity or something that perhaps we can do together.
The problem is that there are no upcoming plays or events that would be of interest to her in Portland, Seattle, Eugene, or Salem.
I even looked at art class and/or lecture activites/events. Nothing really stood out.
Plus I'd like it to be something within the next 1-3 months--but anything outdoors would be rainy. It can't be too expensive. Anywhere from $50-$200 maybe.
I've lived in this area WAY too long (as she has as well) and we've seen too much of it.
Anyone have an creative ideas for something I could do with my mother? Anything you've done in the past that has worked well.
*grumbles*
ETA: Oh gawd now I'm searching the Oregon Coast for activities. We've DONE them all. I just found myself on the page for the Tillamook Cheese Factory *headdesk*. I could just take her to the coast for a night. But we've DONE that!!!! 10 million times.... (of course not just Mom and I ... but still). It feels like we've seen EVERYTHING in the past 40 years.... *grumbles more*
ETA 2: Lighthouses.... seen many of those...all look the same. Art Galleries on the coast--seen many of those--start to look the same. You know? Oregon is great. It's beautiful. But if you want more indoor, cultural-type stuff. There ain't that much. We've got gardens (beautiful ones), beaches (again beautiful), mountains (ditto), rivers (dittos)--lots of outdoor type activities. But for senior citizens who've been here for 40 years??? Nada. I may just have to do the Oregon Symphony tribute to Broadway music (*is lame*)
ETA3: I wish I could justify flying her and I to NYC to see a real broadway play. But trips like that are few and far between for us and lots of my immediately family members would want to go too--which we can't afford. Not that I could really afford 2 people either.
ETA4: GUFFAW!!!! Yeah this one will work. Learn to Surf at Cannon Beach. Yup. That works.
ETA5: Cooking classes...hmmm.
This ONE about artisan breakmaking is one I'd like-but I don't know about her. I wonder if Capriel (a local chef who used to - still does? - have a cooking show based in Portland - I wonder if she still does classes.
ETA6: Okay I forgot that The Importance of Being Earnest was going to be playing here. That's a possibility. But then??? I found THIS!!!
Looking for something unique to do this weekend? If so, be sure to check out the world's largest barber pole, located on the Pacific University campus in Forest Grove. You will truly be amazed!
Guys? We are the center of the universe for cultural attractions. Obviously! You think they have a postcard I can send up to the SPN offices in Vanc?
AND THEN? There's this...
Velveteria is a museum located in Portland, full of paintings made completely out of velvet. Let your curiosity run wild as you inulge in the world of velvet!
*major headdesk*
