- Go to musicoutfitters.com
- Enter the year you graduated from high school in the search function and get the list of 100 most popular songs of that year.
- Bold the songs you like, strike through the ones you hate and underline your favorites. Do nothing to the ones you don't remember/care about.

(Note from me:  Feels like I should be bolding those I loved, not underlining them...but oh well.)

That was kinda fun.

asked the question on her LJ post about "I want to know what the non-negotiable songs are in your life, the ones that are absolutely not up for discussion, they just ARE. I don't know, give me... however many you feel like sharing."

I just had to help my son do this as a homework assignment a few weeks ago.  Never occurred to me to do one myself.  So here's my attempt.  Not in any particular order (and this may very well be embarrassing as my choice of music has drastically evolved over the years but I cannot ignore my early loves.

Instructions: Open up your iTunes and fill out this survey, no matter how embarrassing the responses might be.

How many songs total: 4,368
How many hours or days of music: 15.4 days
Most recently played: My Eyes Adored You by Frankie Vallie (*headdesk* What can I say I was in a nostalgic mood yesterday)
Most played: The Last High by the Dandy Warhols
Most recently added: I Put a Spell on You by Screamin' Jay Hawk (SPN baby)

Sort by song title
First Song: Abandoned Masquerade by Diana Krall
Last Song: 500 Miles by Peter, Paul and Mary (iTunes sorts songs so weirdly putting numbers at the end rather than at the beginning)

Sort by time
Shortest Song: Dig Your Grave by Modest Mouse (15 seconds)
Longest Song: My Favorite Things by John Coltrane (22:47)  I did also have some relaxing music which technically is longer such as Woodland Nightfall (Nature Sounds) at 58:42.

Sort by album
First album: ABBA - Gold - Greatest Hits (Hee!)
Last album: ZZ Top - Greatest Hits  or 52nd Street by Billy Joel

First song that comes up on Shuffle: California Girls by the Beach Boys

Search the following and state how many songs come up:

Death: 17
Life: 177
Love: 302
Hate: 8
You: 547
Sex: 7 (how disappointing!)

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

In no particular ranking....

Half-life by Duncan Sheik (because I love the vocals)

The Last High by The Dandy Warhols (Fell in love with this song because of a fanvid I saw about Brian from QAF. But then discovered The Dandy Warhols, who are from Portland where I live. Have many of their songs now.)

Sway
by Michael Buble (Because I love Michael Buble, and this song makes me want to dance. And I do NOT like to dance.)

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley (which can describe my work life some days)

Babylon by David Gray (Just because I love it. Found this one on an episode of Boston Legal)

Pure Imagination (as sung by Gene Wilder in the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Love this movie, love the song.)

Advertising Space by Robbie Williams (I discovered Robbie through the Cole Porter movie "De-Lovely." Also discovered Diana Krall. I now own most of their albums. There's something about this song that I just love, the words, the music, his voice...the combo of all.)
