asked the question on her LJ post about "I want to know what the non-negotiable songs are in your life, the ones that are absolutely not up for discussion, they just ARE. I don't know, give me... however many you feel like sharing."
I just had to help my son do this as a homework assignment a few weeks ago. Never occurred to me to do one myself. So here's my attempt. Not in any particular order (and this may very well be embarrassing as my choice of music has drastically evolved over the years but I cannot ignore my early loves.
Again in no particular order:
- Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson (just loved this to death as a child)
- Let it Be, Beatles
- Guitar Etude No. 3 by Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weisberg (during my angsty college years Dan and Tim were a constant presence in my dorm room)
- The Netherlands by Dan Fogelberg (this was before Dan became very well known)
- Hotel California by the Eagles
- Come Sail Away by Styx (in fact the entire Grand Illusion album by Styx)
- Dust in the Wind by Kansas
- Sister Golden Hair Surprise, Ventura Highway, and A Horse with No Name by America (almost anything by America)
- Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles
- Penny Lane by the Beatles
- River of Dreams by Billy Joel (this was playing the summer I was pregnant with my son--was my favorite song that summer)
- Joy to the World by Three Dog Night
- The entire "An Evening with John Denver" album (everytime my family went on a summer vacation in our station wagon, this album would be playing on our 8-track tape deck (gasp!) This album is nothing but good memories for me and I still put it on during vacation car trips.)
- Close to You and Yesterday Once More by The Carpenters (childhood memories)
- American Pie by Don McLean
- Enter Sandman by Metallica
- The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel
- 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago
- I Heard it Through the Grapevine by Marvin Gaye
- Stranglehold by Ted Nugent
- Black and White by Three Dog Night
- I'll Meet you Halfway and I Think I Love You by David Cassidy (sorry, but it is what it is--I was a David Cassidy fangirl)
- L - O - V - E by Nat King Cole (man if I had a nickle for everytime I've listened to this song in my lifetime...)
- Me and Julio Down by the School Yard by Paul Simon
- This Guy's In Love with You by Herb Albert
- Moon River by Andy Williams
- Grease by Frankie Vallie
- Look Out Cleveland by The Band
- Moonlight Serenade by The Glenn Miller Band (this one *always* stops me in my tracks)
- Songs from the Wood by Jethro Tull (the whole album)
- The Weight by The Band
- Everything and Sway by Michael Buble (love all Michael's stuff)
- Allegro by Bear McCreary from the Battlestar Galactica S2 Soundtrack (this whole soundtrack is terrific but Allegro always causes me to pause and listen)
- Wives and Lovers by Burt Bacharach
- Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson (just loved this to death as a child)
- Let it Be, Beatles
