How is this even possible????

I mean really. 

I would NOT have thought it was possible for me to love SHOW even more. 

I mean just ask my daughter about my current level of Show-love and watch her roll her eyes.  She'd be the first to tell you I'm already WAAAYYY around the bend with SHOW.

But thinking about 4.01 and 4.02 and reading others reactions to those episodes has done the impossible.

It's INCREASED my love of Show!

I haven't thought this all the way through, so don't expect wonderful, logical, thought-out meta here.  Just some random thinky thoughts.

Some of you may be aware that prior to SPN eating my brain, I used to obessively fangirl the new Battlestar Galactica.  I'm still a very HUGE fan of that show, but SPN-love and the weird-ass year-long hiatus's BSG has had has dampened my obsessiveness of that show a bit.

In past I've made comments that while Show owns my heart and soul completely, I would acknowledge that BSG is .. and man I feel like I'm betraying Show to even say this ... that BSG is likely the better-quality show.  In terms of all the layers and nuances and parallels to the human condition, past events, and political realities.

And while I still think BSG holds that rank above SPN, I think that with 4.01 and 4.02, SPN is now reaching for a new level.  One more on par with BSG.

One of the things I love about BSG is how it gets the fans talking about politics, religion, metaphysics, and the human condition.  Fans will start to read about, research, talk about and discuss events explicitly or implicitly referred to in the show.  And BSG's fans (like SPN's fans) are very smart, bright, amazing people.  The online and podcast discussions around BSG after each episode just enthralled me.

So back to SPN...

With 4.01 and 4.02 I'm start to see some of that same type of discussion occurring.  I've already seen a few fans talk about or say they are reading up on Revelations.  People are reading about Old Testament-type angels.  Not the Roma Downey-type.  But the Bad Ass Warrior type.

On a 4.02 LJ post by anteka dude_isotopes  made references to Neil Gaiman's American Gods (a personal favorite) and another referencing a 21st Century Gamer's description of the Archangel Michael (go read that BTW--I loved it!--BadAss of the Week:  The Archangel Michael).

I've seen other LJ posts/comments this morning talking about old testament and Revelations.  And about Dean's pyschology.  And about the "greys" of Sam and Dean's fight against the baddies.  How decisions they have made have had bad consequences as much as good.

Now, I'm not saying it's to the same level of BSG.  But what I am saying is that previous "thinky" posts were usually centered around the boys motivations, the cinematography (I love those!), and then of course there are the millions of OMG HOT! and OMG They are SO IN LOVE! types of posts.  

All of which I love and I've participated in gleefully.

But if you add BSG-type meta on top of the ABSOLUTE squee and lovefest that is SPN. 

I think I might implode from the awesomeness.

So um ... yeah.  Not sure that even made sense.  But Show is just exciting me more and more.


 

And in other non-SPN news...I have today OFF from work!!!! YAY!  Of course it's not totally non-SPN related as I will likely spend my day immersed in SPN stuff!  (hee!)

Oh and also... I ordered a second S1 DVD set.  It's supposed to be delivered today.  I've found that it tends to take folks awhile to get through S1 so I'm getting a second set to try and spread the SAA infection love even more.  I will probably loan this on out to our long-time hairdresser who is expressing a lot of interest in Show right now.  So much that she says she's talking it up to all her customers!
