I wasn't able to watch And Then There Were None until Saturday evening. I've been out of town at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival--but there was a SPN connection there--which I'll share in a moment.
I enjoyed 6x16. I was spoiled for Rufus' death, and that Bobby did not die. So while I'm very bummed that Rufus is gone, I was already adjusted to the idea. I don't necessarily like it--but I've adjusted. I knew that Sampa had to die sometime soon too--just because Dean had promised to kill him. Plus, he needed to die for what he did to the boys.
But I will miss Mitch Peliggi.
Gwen's death was a complete surprise. I didn't see that coming. Although with the "And Then There were None" I guess maybe I should have. There are no more Campbell's left right? I have to confess I feel like the whole point of the Campbell storyline is very confused to me. I have read various metas on it and I get the idea of family being who is there for you, not blood. But I don't know, somehow I feel like there could have been something interesting done with the Campbell line. Rather than show them as being ... well a bit like soul-less Sam, I guess.
And Gwen was this big blank slate of no charater development whatsoever.
Be that as it may, I enjoyed the episode. The brother moments were WONDERFUL! The looks of silent communication. Dean being "D" on Sam's phone. And all the rest.
Loved Rufus and Bobby together and their backstory.
I felt like I was watching The Wrath of Khan with the whole worm-in-the-ear story. I missed Bobby calling it the Khan worm (I read it in someone's review). Ha!.
I'm a little meh about the Mother of All story and it seems to me to be somewhat disconnected to the Heaven civil war. But that's ok! The brothers are back and together (for now) and whatever else is going on is all gravy to me. I'll just sit back and enjoy it--which I am.
And did anyone else catch that the trucker guy who the Mother first infected with the Khan Worm was Scotty from Scarecrow in S1? I haven't double checked that, so perhaps I'm wrong, but I just re-watched Scarecrow the other day with my friend who I'm watching all of SPN with. So his face was fresh in my mind.
And speaking of which....like I said I was at Ashland this weekend watching Measure for Measure. During the intermission, I was reading through the Play Bill about the other pays being offered in the Bowmer Theater this season.
This guy caught my attention....

I *knew* I'd seen him somewhere before. Then I saw this in his OSF bio entry: "Film/TV: Ashes, Numb, Dexter, Law and Order, Without a Trace, Supernatural, The Shield, Chappelle's Show, Animated Tales of the World (HBO)."
Then I recognized him! He was from the Magnificent Seven episode (3x01). It took me until that night to remember his character's name: Isaac (right? I haven't looked that up yet.) He's playing Tom Robinson in OSF's To Kill a Mockingbird. Which I'd love to see even without this connection. But the connection makes me want to see it even more.
This is the second SPN guest actor with an OSF connection. The priest in Houses of the Holy is an OSF alumnae that I've seen in may plays at Ashland.
I'm going to post separately about the Ashland trip...but this made me realize that the show biz world is likely a small one.
