Why I am addicted to Supernatural...
Mar. 9th, 2008 10:02 amSent a rambling email to
fickleone yesterday morning. She and I have often wondered how two respectable, normal(?) mature women can get so obsessively addicted to a little-known TV show. I was in an SPN-happy mood yesterday and did a stream-of-consciousness ramble about it..
I'm sure there's more.
Then dragonfly who did one of my all-time favorite SPN vids, Carol of the Supernatural, has done another great one called Bellum Supernatural. Check it out!
..This fandom is just so perfect. No wonder it's addictive like crack.
So many dimensions to this addiction... (Man, I just re-read through this list before I sent it off--added to it--and *man* there are *really* a lot of reasons--no wonder we are addicted.)
--Great stories/plots (in canon)
--Great monsters-of-the-week
--Interesting to learn about myths and urban legends
--Great cinematography
--Cool car!!!!! Never thought I'd love a car so much that I'd get upset to think that it might have "died."
--Absolutely f**king fantastic music!
--Great writers--and fun to get to know them. We are *fans* of the writers!
--Great show creator. Another Joss. Love the Kripke. He's a fanboy himself.
--Great family-love and devotion in canon
--Great gag reels
--Great stories (in fandom)
--Great actors (professionally)
--Great guys (in real-life)
--Great characterizations of both Sam & Dean and J & J (in fandom)
--Great supporting characters (in canon)
--Great support characters (in RPS fandom--Chris, Steve, Chad (I really like Chad in RPS supporting roles), Mike, Tom
--Hot actors (in canon/RL)
--Really, really *nice* and down-to-earth boys (in both fandom & RL)
--Really professional, creative, and nice crew and cast on the whole show
--Sandy
--Sandy & Jared
--Jared & Jensen friendship and chemistry
--Steve Carlson
--Jason Manns
--Genre show--so there's the conventions (would never get *that* with Grey's Anatomy for example)
--Merchandise to feed the addiction. (I mean really--I'm COLLECTING TRADING CARDS! --and organizing them in a book for f**k's sake. *shakes head at self*)
--Great fans
--Creative and talented fanfic writers
--Creative and talented fanvidders
--Very active fandom
--*GREAT* meta writers
--The fact that the canon storyline lends itself to great meta. There are so many layers. I mean really, a show can be analyzed by it's color-scheme? *AND* it makes sense?
