On lunch break and just saw THIS linked in my Google Alerts: Comic Con turning away some TV Co's. Some items of note for me:

First and most important:
Comic-Con attendees crave “exclusive” items. In Warner Bros.' case, last year, it gave out 75,000 collectors' bags for The CW's Smallville that caused a frisson. This year, it will offer different ones each day for four separate series.

Does this mean that attendees may get SPN swag this year? *is envious*

Then back to the beginning of the article:

When Comic-Con began 38 years ago in San Diego, it was just a small show for comic book collectors and science-fiction freaks. By last year, it attracted a crowd of 125,000, including enough TV networks and producers that now the show's organizers, fearful that Comic-Con will lose its original flavor, are deliberately limiting the number of TV-related companies they'll allow to attend. They've also refused to give several networks and studios bigger booths.

As I've droned on commented on in a wise fashion to [profile] fickleone  in the past.... YES! Power to the GEEKS and Freaks of the world! The marketing value of us "marginal" folks is starting to be recognized.

Of course the bad side of this is that events such as Comic Con are taken over by TPTB for marketing blitzes.

And then this..

Some 3,000 members of the press attend, skewing heavily toward fan sites and bloggers, who can create a snowball of interest on the speed-of-light Internet.

“Word-of-mouth is not friend-to-friend now,” said Lisa Gregorian, who heads television marketing at Warner Bros. “The world has changed so dramatically because of technology that it's one-to-many.”

Networks and studios said the attendees are passionate fans and tastemakers, and if they come away appreciating a new series or further inspired by an established one, they will become evangelists for it.

Emphasis above is mine. Sound familiar anyone...namely our army of SPN obsessed evangelists?

And then...

Comic-Con, in some ways, had become the platform of choice to bypass the journalistic gatekeepers and go directly to the 18- to 34-year-old males who attend the booming event en masse. Considering that many TCA critics work for newspapers where the median age of readers is over 50, it's easy to understand McPherson's reluctance -- and Comic-Con's appeal.

I can understand the bypassing the old-time media for bloggers and internet savvy participants. HOWEVER, I OBJECT to the 18- to 34-year-old male bit. Yeah, I know it's likely true--but I always feel so left out. I listen to tech podcasts all the time for example, and whenever they comment on their listenership, they always say they have little to no female listeners. And I'm sitting there, Horshack-style, waving my hand saying "YES you DO!"

Hmmm... and then onto Kripke, Sera, and Singer and the SPN Panel...

Exclusive clips also create a thrill, so much so that Sera Gamble, executive story editor for The CW's Supernatural, recently overheard executive producers Eric Kripke and Robert Singer debate what to show at their panel. Kripke argued hard for the first 10 minutes of this fall's season four to please the fans. “They deserve it,” he said. But Singer nixed the idea partly because “10 minutes later, everyone on planet Earth will know about it” via the blogosphere.

So will they or will they not be showing part of S4 premier?  Not sure I really want them too.  But S3 gag clip would be cool.

And more in another post about a new obsession that kept me up til 1am last night and *gasp* it was NOT SPN!

Apple released their new Applications store which I'd been awaiting for like...a year.  This weekend I updated my Touch software to get the $9.99 software update that enables Touch's to run the applications.

Then I played with three cool applications:

  • Platinum Suduko (cuz yeah I guess few can resist Suduko)
  • Remote - which is this really cool free app that lets you use your Touch or iPhone to remotely control iTunes or Apple TV.  (I know only an Apple geek would appreciate this.  But it's cool man!)
And then what kept me up until 1am.

Anyone who knows me knows that I really, really, really don't like games.

Of any kind.

No really I don't.

Never have.

Even as a small child.

I don't find them exciting.  They make me sad because SOMEONE always LOSES!  If I win, I feel bad about the other person(s).  And if I lose, then I feel like I need to spend time and energy so I can master the darn thing.  And?  I think it's all a callousel(sp?) waste of time.

When I was an older teenager, my family got their first computer--yup it was an Apple II back in the dark ages of home computing.  There were no graphics (or very little)--it was all word inputs.

I found there was a type of game I enjoyed on the Apple II.  It was an "adventure" game where the computer described in words where you were and what your objective was and then you told the computer to go north, south, west, east OR pick up this or that, etc.

It was not timed.  There were no scores.  It was just interesting.

That was my speed.

Computer games generally lost me after Pong and *MAYBE* Pac-man.

But this frigging game I downloaded last night!  I freaking love it.

It's called Trism and it's not that different from Bejeweled  but I like it so much better.  Perhaps because it's so pattern and visually oriented that I'm just naturally enthralled by it.  Before I knew it it was 1 am.  And guess what?  The first damn thing I did this morning after waking at 5:30 am--was to play 2 damn games!  I'm trying REAL hard not to pick the thing up because I really have to get back to work this afternoon.

Here's a picture of the Trism game from some website online:

I'm frickin' addicted I tell you!

Oh god I don't know WHAT to do!!!

I went ahead a bid all over the place for SPN cards I didn't have.  Only went for the very low priced cards and figured if I don't get outbid, then terrific I got a low-cost card.  And if I did get outbid--also terrific cuz that's money I don't have to spend.

And, no surprise to me, I have been pretty consistently outbid as expected.

Except for two of the cards I kinda sorta wanted I'm now outbid on.  And I KNOW the right thing to do is just LET IT GO.  Because I really need to concentrate on airfare for LA Con 2009, not on these frickin' cards!

But dammit!

*I will not re-bid.  I will not re-bid.  I will not rebid."

Hey!  An SAA reference--AHBL part 1.  When Jake walks in the school house and finds the chalk board all written over "I will not kill".

(Yes M, I do plan on replying to the SAA post you reminded me about this morning.  Just got off work and am catching up.)

Sp I did this thingy and I only know who ONE of these people even are.  Perhaps I should post a photo with a fatter face?  This one is recent but the angle is more flattering then most.

[personal profile] missyjack    just posted this in her LJ linking to an Amazon listing for "In the Hunt" a meta by fans(?) and Sera Gamble(?) on Supernatural! I just pre-ordered. No idea when it's available. I just posted a comment to [personal profile] missyjack    asking when it's supposed to be out. A good addition to my SPN collection.

In the Hunt: Unauthorised essays on Supernatural (BenBella Smart Pop Series)

A relative newcomer to the paranormal-teen drama scene, the hit TV show Supernatural has already developed a rabid and deeply committed fan base since its debut in the fall of 2005. When their dad mysteriously disappears, brothers Dean and Sam Winchester join forces to bring him home and are pulled headlong into the world he knew best—one full of demons, spirits, monsters, and ghouls. Featuring essays from three lucky fans as well as leading writers and pop culture experts, this insightful anthology sheds light on a variety of issues, including why such a male-centric show has such a large female fan base, “Wincest” and homoeroticism, how Supernatural can be interpreted as a modern-day Brothers Grimm, and the questionable nature of John Winchester’s parenting habits. An exclusive, behind-the-scenes interview with executive story editor Sera Gamble is also included.

I'm mean...we all know I need MORE items that relate to Supernatural!

*proudly holds up SPN SAA Card*

(And no these aren't the "real" cards, we don't have any clue know what we're doing with all that. I'm just playing again.)

And I just couldn't help myself.
I made me an SAA icon too!
