Happy Earth Day
I was thinking earlier about making a post in celebration of Earth Day. But I felt a little overwhelmed by the thought for some reason.
But nothing beats Carl Sagan, one of my heroes:
Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot"
Some of my Earth Day resolutions:
- I will increase my usage of re-usable grocery bags rather than using the plastic or even paper bags provided by the store. I purchased several of the reusable grocery bags this past January and have had a spotty record of using them.
- Bob is terrific at recycling. I've been lazy at the same. I will try to be more like Bob.
- This spring/summer/fall I will buy more produce from local farmer markets rather than from grocery stores. In other words, buy more locally. I wish I could say I would grow my own. But my track record there is lousy. I tend to kill plants.
And a tribute to Earth's majestic mountains...
And a final message from Carl Sagan:
ETA: Okay I didn't start out thinking about Carl Sagan--I just went looking for pertinent images/clips/something for Earth Day. I'm now obsessed with various Carl Sagan clips on YouTube. I'd forgotten how much I loved this man when Cosmos first aired on PBS and then later when I read just about every book he ever wrote. What I would have given to meet this man. One of my biggest fantasies when I was younger was that he was my teacher and mentor. If I'd known what fangirling was back then--he would have been among my first.
