I really, really like Mad Men.
It's not like it's action packed. And the story lines are not in-your-face. They are so subtle.
Sunday's episode--with the focus on the three women and their lives in the 60s. It grabbed me more than ever. All three women...just terrific.
Betty--I've never seen such a CALM and REPRESSED melt-down. Man it SO represents how girls were raised back then. I was always talk NEVER to show emotion. The whole dinner party--it felt like a flash back to my childhood. Except I refused to keep doing ballet and likely never would have performed in front of the dinner party. But the "perfectness" of the dinner party--so true to how we were supposed to live.
Joan--I've always liked Joan. But tonight I REALLY liked her. She just lit up doing that job. And when they gave it to a man. UGH. I bet when Joan explodes it will not be calm and repressed. She would be a high-powered exec today. It was amazing (and true) how Harry didn't even think to capitalize on her talent and how the clients responded to her.
Peggy--I really like Peggy--she intrigues me. She is outside of my experience during that era--a "good" catholic girl raised in a blue collar environment. She really intrigues me (did I already say that?)
Again, this show is not my normal type of show. But I can't stop watching it.
