We had a wonderful day at the Con-Con today! The "FIVE" were great and terrific. I think I may have gotten some great photos. The special effects crew was very interesting (we need that at a SPN con). And the creators/writers of the show were also terrific (and we need that too.)
One of the highlights for me was the auto session with Mark Shep.pard who plays Sterling on Leverage, Romo on BSG, Badger on Firefly, and recently the demon Crowley on SPN.
One of the girls in front of fickleone and I in line was obviously a big SPN fan. She asked Mark about filming Mark's "first on screen kiss" .... with a 75 year old man on SPN. The story was very funny. Mark obviously loves to talk. He stopped signing autos (I was directly in front of him and my photo was waiting for his signature) and just started talking to the group of us about the filming of that sequence.
He said there were no 75-year-old bit actors in Vancouver who were willing to film a scene kissing another man. I said, "Really? I would think Vancouverites would be okay with that." He said, "They ARE...but not if they are 75 years old!" So it evidently took them some time to find an actor who was willing.
And then the poor guy was so nervous it took them 6 hours to film the sequence. Mark said he couldn't be nice to the guy to help him through it because then the guy would relax too much and there was supposed to be a lot of tension in that scene. So this 75-year-old man, who was 6 feet tall and wearing a heavy black coat...started to sweat. So each time Mark had to grab his "balding head" (Mark's words), Mark got a handful of sweating, balding, 75-year-old guy. At one point Mark told us he looked over at the film crew and Mark said that "Phil and everyone else" was snickering into their hands trying not to laugh out loud and ruin the scene.
After it was over Mark said he called his wife who told him, "Now you *understand* dating!"
Update (thanks to fickleone's memory): Mark added that it didn't help that when he first met the dude the first thing he said was, "Pucker up Buttercup!"
Later after the autographs, we were all back in the main room listening to the creators/writers talk and someone came up to the mic directly behind me and asked [paraphrasing here] "What about all the terrific guest actors, when are you going to bring them back?" Everyone started cheering--it was Mark at the mic. I turned around and got some close-up photos while Mark and the creators/writers bantered back and forth.
Edit: I posted the photos of Mark here.
The last day tomorrow--opens with Mark. Should be good.
There's a lot more to tell--but I have to make dinner for my family. I have a BUNCH of photos as well. We were only a row behind the "premium" tickets--in something like the 10th or 11th row and on an aisle--so great seats.
More later...
