Women and Sci Fi
Aug. 24th, 2008 12:52 pmI don't even know how I found myself there yesterday, likely a link from an f-lister. But I'm very intrigued by what's being talked about over at
amireal's LJ.
Someone sparked by the cancellation (??!!) of SGA (which I haven't watched yet, but I DO plan to someday),
amireal and other's have started to discuss women fen in sci-fi and how we are not recognized as a targeted demographic for sci-fi.
I've mentioned before that I've been a sci-fi fan and tech-geek my whole life. When I listen to tech podcasts I get all hot-under-the-collar when comments are made about how women don't listen to tech news or watch sci-fi. I'm sitting there in my car *yelling* at my iPod saying *yes they do!*
So these women sci-fi fen -- they are discussing what do to about that here and here.
Note to self: I collected most of my icons during my disgruntled (okay...p.o'd days at work) so I need to get some happier and more diverse icons.
