what I did for my summer vacation...

Got back from camping at Diamond Lake in southern Oregon.
We're back. We had a very good time. In Emily's words it was the best family vacation she can recall in a long time. However (and I *knew* this but no one would listen to me) 3 full days of camping is just about our limit. So last evening we decided to come home. It was a very quick and easy decision and took us less than an hour to break camp. We got home at 1 am. Had a great time on the drive home! I was amazed at Bob being about to stay wake and alert so easily. We put on some oldies on the iPod and sang to songs like American Pie all the way home. I had such a huge smile on my face when we were singing American Pie. It came about 2 hours into the trip. Emily was just starting to listen to her own iPod and Tim was being silent. As soon as American Pie came on Bob started to sing under his breath, I joined in, then quickly Tim. Emily heard us over her iPod, unplugged, laughed and joined in. We were all singing at the top of our lungs for the full 8 minutes. It's great how songs like that appeal to all generations and is so easily recognized by newer generations as being so good.
Why we came back?.....
Em wanted to see Alex. 'Nuf said.
Tim wanted to be home to see his friends and do his online gaming--he had a great time using his new kayak (bday present). I'm so proud of him. He's getting so grown up. Seeing him out there on the lake was at first a little nerve racking because he was the only one with the kayak--but he showed a lot of responsibility. I so want a kayak now---I'm envious. Bob says maybe he'll get me one next year. Tim and Emily got on very good this trip--Tim was acting and conversing more and more like an adult and it was great to see them playing cards and walking off to the lodge together.
Bob didn't like taking a whole week off of work (he doesn't get paid) and he had class Thursday night that he didn't really want to miss. He went fishing a lot when he was there. He caught 3 fish yesterday and I think that was his "okay I accomplished what I wanted to" moment. We're cooking the fish tonight for dinner. I can never cook fish well at a campsite. I have enough trouble in a real kitchen.
Me? I just wanted to be able to get up at 3 am to go to the bathroom without having to put on my coat and shoes. Surprisingly enough to me, I didn't miss my computer all that much at all. No real withdraw symptoms! I'm so proud of that! I even waited 3 hours after waking up this morning to open this thing up. Normally it's one of the first things I do. I read through 2 books--the Nevermore book and I finished the Watchmen. Nevermore was okay--a quick, easy read. Wouldn't really recommend it to anyone who was not totally and completely obsessed with SPN though. I really liked the Watchmen. I didn't expect it to have a happy ending--and it didn't really. But the story and the characters stuck with me after I finished it. I'm still thinking about it. Alex lent me V for Vendetta (Tim and I rented the movie at Kahneeta and we really liked it.) Emily was bored a little yesterday so I talked her into trying to read V since I wasn't quite done with Watchmen. It's amazing what I can get her to do just by suggesting that Alex would like it. (Actually I can get both Bob and Tim to do stuff that way too--it's really rather weird how this young man has impacted this family.) Of course, now I'm done with Watchmen and want to read V, and now Emily is home so I'm not sure I'll get her to re-open the thing. The good thing is that V is much shorter than Watchmen and significantly shorter than Sandman. So I bet I get through it very quickly.
