Vancon 2009 :: Autographs

Autographs

I put together a theme set for autographs. You can find my post about that here. I did the same thing for ChiCon 2008 and really liked the results.

Above: I struggled with what to have the boys sign. My themed set--either individual or the Sam & Dean which you can see at the top of this post. Or my ChiCon 2008 photo op--which I really loved. I finally decided on the photo op.

Fickleone and I had registered to sign up for next years VanCon 2010. Just as we were getting to go through the curtain for the boys autograph, our numbers were called. We had to get out of line and go sign up (got great seats btw!) I got flustered. Rather than take a few moments after we signed up for next year and recompose ourselves, I rushed us back to the front of the auto line (like we were told to do). Because of that we were kinda rushed going through. Trying to get all our auto tickets in order and our photos out to be signed. Totally my fault.

When I went up to Jensen, he took my photo and just started to sign his name over Jared's picture on the right. I kinda stood there saying, "Um..." He realized what he'd done and said, "I don't know WHY I just signed over Jared." So then he grabbed a black pen and wrote on the side, "SORRY J...I DID IT AGAIN! OOPS." He then said to me that if I didn't tell Jared he did this, Jared probably wouldn't even notice. Jensen's handler told me that Jensen had been doing that a lot that day.

When I got to Jared, sure enough he just started to sign in the "blank" spot--over Jensen. He looked up at me and said, "Thanks!" And I moved on. He didn't even notice!

But I love that I got a semi-personalized Jensen autograph! And that Jensen wrote "J" instead of "Jared."

(When Jensen handed the photo back to me, I accidently put my thumb over the word AGAIN--so it got a little smugged.)

Above: Jake said the photo was cool. I had put together some cards to hand out to people at the con. He thought that was cool too--so I gave him one! This is the card below:

Above: The cards I handed out to fans at the con. They were laminated. I had some larger ones that fit in the lanyards (cuz let's face it---this year's con tickets were a little boring/ugly) and some smaller ones that I handed out to most people.

Above: You know? I know think I even *remember* Misha's autograph session. Oh yea! I DO! His handler had just given him a book by Henry Jenkins "Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide" (see image below). I had read that book awhile ago and I asked him if he was reading it. He said he was just given it, but was looking foward to readin it. Given Misha's comments about fandom culture--it's a perfect book for him to be reading.

Above: Because the J photos ran over so long, Jim didn't start signing autos until around 7pm. He later tweeted that he was signing until 2am! I was in the fourth row and it took a couple of hours to get to us. Way longer than usual. Jim was not only personalizing; he was chatting with folks as well. When we finally got through the curtain, he was very friendly, if a little flustered about the volume of people. He was so concerned that he was taking too long and was causing people to wait for so long. He said that he always thought it was best to personalize because people seemed to like it, but then it made the lines go slower.

One girl in front of us had several photos for him to sign for some of her friends. Each time she handed him a photo, she'd tell him a little about the person he was signing for. Sometimes with a little too much TMI thrown in that had him looking up at her with a kinda dazed expression on his face.

When he saw my photo he was amazed that I'd done it. He said that he wished he could do stuff in Photoshop. He was very sweet. During his panel he played up the Bobby aspects. You didn't see too much of his sweeter side--the side that you saw in his book. When he was signing autographs--you could definitely see the Jim that was in his book.

Above: Alona's first words when she saw this was, "Do you think my nostrals could BE any larger!" She meant it as a joke, not as a criticism. I thought it was funny because I'd used the same image of her for her auto in Chicago and the first words she said there was that that was her favorite image because she liked her hair in it!

She was also impressed by the graphics. She tried to write, "Dear Karen, really cool grafics, all the best!" Then she realized she'd spelt graphics wrong and asked if it was with a "ph." While she was correcting it, she said, "not my language." She also signed her name in Hebrew, like she did on my Chicago auto. I really enjoyed Alona.

Above: Gabe was adorabe and funny as always. Just like at Chicago, he ooh'd and aw'd over the graphics. He couldn't figure out what to say. He said he wanted to say something cool to match the coolness of the image--but he drew a blank. As did I, so I just told him to write "These are not the droids you're looking for."

Above: We talked with Aldis about Leverage. We're from Portland so my friend has seen him at Christian's gigs a few times and I'd seen him once at a Christian gig. My friend congratulated him on Leverage's third season pick up. He said the cast and crew really appreciated the support. He also said that they may be using a future Christian gig at Dante's in a Leverage episode. That would be SO cool!
